On June 12th, Li Bin, founder and chairman of NIO, stated that reducing the weight of new energy vehicles has great value for users, but reaching such a goal is not as simple as it seems. He believes that lightweighting is a comprehensive result of cost, technology, engineering, and product definition. According to Li Bin's calculations, after the basic definition of the vehicle is completed, during the final sprint phase of lightweighting, it costs about 1000 yuan to reduce the weight by 1 kilogram. He said that it is relatively easy to reduce from 2 tons to 1.9 tons, but as the weight continues to decrease from 1.9 tons, the cost per kilogram will increase.
