Five Mexican police officers were shot dead on the eve of the World Cup.

On the eve of the opening of the 2026 World Cup in North America, five police officers in Mexico were shot dead in the western state of Michoacan on the 10th, with another five officers injured. According to state government reports, the victims were attacked by unidentified armed individuals in Navasen city, Michoacan, which is a stronghold of some drug trafficking groups, and gang violence is rampant.
