Anthropic urges the upgrade of the unemployment benefits system to address the wave of layoffs caused by AI.

Anthropic company on Wednesday urged the US Congress not to prevent states from enacting regulations on artificial intelligence before federal standards are in place, in order to prevent "catastrophic risks of artificial intelligence". The company also called on Congress and states to modernize the technology used to pay unemployment benefits to address potential layoffs caused by artificial intelligence. A recent public opinion survey showed that half of Americans are concerned that the rise of artificial intelligence could lead to themselves or a member of their household losing their job. The company stated that existing technology used to pay unemployment benefits "is not yet adequately prepared to handle large-scale labor market disruptions".
