On June 2, the United Nations weather agency predicted that a moderate to possibly strong El Nio event is forming, which could raise global temperatures and increase the risk of extreme weather events in the coming months. The World Meteorological Organization stated that abnormally warm sea temperatures are driving the development of El Nio and expects temperatures to be above average in most regions globally from June to August. The organization also added that the El Nio event is likely to persist until November.
