Microsoft (MSFT.O) on Tuesday launched "Project Solara," a platform dedicated to supporting products primarily driven by AI agents as the main interaction method. The goal is to free AI agents from the constraints of laptop screens and integrate them into enterprise mobile devices. Microsoft's latest showcase includes two "concept designs" developed in collaboration with Qualcomm and MediaTek. One of the devices is essentially an enhanced employee badge with Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and wireless connectivity, along with a touchscreen and fingerprint reader; the second device is a compact, sturdy desktop device with a screen. Microsoft's CEO and Qualcomm's CEO discussed the necessity of developing new types of devices during the conversation - devices that need to adopt new forms that are most suitable for their operating environments and can run specific AI agents. They mentioned that existing interfaces like PCs and smartphones are not always the best solution, hence the need for the kind of new devices that the "Project Solara" project will bring about.
