Autonomous driving trucks pulling trailers on highways in the United States? The CEO of FedEx Freight stated that this technology is ready. The timing for these trucks to hit the road will depend on regulatory agencies. "These trucks are able to leave the facility, navigate from the facility to the interstate highway, drive on the interstate highway, and go to the next facility. 99.9% of the time, the driver doesn't need to do anything," said FedEx Freight CEO John Smith. "Regulation will be the biggest obstacle." Following its spinoff from FedEx, FedEx Freight began trading as an independent company on Monday. The company focuses on transporting multiple smaller shipments combined into one trailer, known as the less-than-truckload (LTL) industry. Based in Memphis, FedEx Freight has annual revenues of $8.7 billion and is the largest LTL carrier in North America.
