Uzbekistan resumes gold exports.
As one of the world's largest gold producing countries, Uzbekistan fully resumed its gold exports in April after a hiatus of about six months. According to the country's National Statistics Committee, Uzbekistan exported approximately $1.5 billion worth of non-monetary gold in the first four months of this year, with the majority of exports concentrated in April. Uzbekistan's annual gold production is around 130 tons. Since September of last year, the country had essentially halted gold exports, while at the same time, the central bank had become one of the world's largest buyers of this precious metal. As another major gold producing country in the world, Russia has also recently accelerated its gold sales pace.
