Guinea, the world's largest bauxite producer, plans to officially introduce export controls and reform measures for bauxite in June 2026, with the core purpose of controlling the total export volume to curb the decline in mineral prices and promote their recovery. Guinea's Minister of Mines and Geology, Boubacar Sylla, pointed out that as a country that supplies more than one-third of the world's bauxite, Guinea's export volume surged by 25% to 183 million tons in 2025, with further acceleration in the first quarter of this year. This severe oversupply has led to a sluggish market, with mineral prices nearly halved from their peak in early last year. Sylla emphasized that the government's principle is that "supply must never exceed demand" and hopes to regulate export volume to bring prices back to a reasonable level.
