South Korea's Hyundai Motor Group has established a special team to promote its smart factory and robot business.

Industry insiders said on Monday that Hyundai Motor Group has established a new dedicated department to advance its software-defined factory strategy and coordinate the procurement of robot components, paving the way for the deployment of Atlas humanoid robots in its manufacturing plants. The group recently added a software-defined factory project coordination position and appointed Alpesh Patel, Chief Innovation Officer of the Singapore Innovation Center, as the head. Hyundai's U.S. subsidiary, Boston Dynamics, developed the Atlas humanoid robot, which made its debut at the 2026 Las Vegas International Consumer Electronics Show. Prior to this, Hyundai Motor Group announced plans to build a base with a production capacity of 30,000 humanoid robots per year by 2028 and to gradually deploy a total of 25,000 robots in its Hyundai and Kia factories.
