On May 22 at 19:29, a gas explosion occurred underground at the Liushenyu Coal Mine of Shanxi Tongzhou Group. After the accident, the Ministry of Emergency Management dispatched 6 national mine emergency rescue teams consisting of 345 people with equipment to the scene. Shanxi Province also mobilized 7 rescue and medical teams totaling 755 people to fully engage in emergency rescue, medical treatment, and on-site disposal work.
