Nine months after Starbucks fully promoted the artificial intelligence tool used for automated inventory counting in its North American stores, the company officially shut down the tool this week. Prior to this, it was discovered that the AI tool frequently made mistakes in counting, leading to numerous errors and omissions in inventory management. The tool was once a flagship initiative of CEO Brian Niccol aimed at solving the core problem of frequent product shortages, which he had long criticized for severely impacting the company's performance.
