In April, Shanghai's foreign trade reached a new high, with the import and export of AI computing power products increasing by 85.7%.
According to statistics from the Shanghai Customs, in April of this year, the total import and export volume of Shanghai reached 455.9 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 14%. The import and export scale hit a new historical high for the third consecutive month following February and March, maintaining a growth trend for 15 months in a row. Among them, exports were 196.17 billion yuan, an increase of 17.5%; imports were 259.73 billion yuan, an increase of 11.5%. All three indicators achieved double-digit growth, providing solid support for the stable development of the city's foreign trade. Looking at the cumulative data for the first four months, Shanghai's import and export volume reached 1.68 trillion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 19.7%, showing stable and positive development in foreign trade. The explosive growth of the artificial intelligence industry has led to a booming import and export of AI-related products. In April, the total import and export volume of AI-related products such as integrated circuits, storage components, and computer peripherals in Shanghai reached 73.58 billion yuan, a sharp increase of 85.7% year-on-year, driving the city's foreign trade growth by 8.5 percentage points. More than 60% of the products were handled in bonded logistics, indicating that Shanghai is deeply embedded in the global AI industry supply chain, further highlighting its role as a global hub.
