The National Labor Relations Commission in South Korea has stated that Samsung Electronics and its South Korean union will resume negotiations on Wednesday. Both sides are moving towards an agreement in order to avoid a destructive and prolonged strike. When asked why the 15-hour long negotiations on Tuesday did not result in an agreement, the chairman of the commission stated, "The management and union have not reached consensus on one issue." Samsung and the union plan to resume negotiations at 10 a.m. local time on Wednesday, with negotiations likely to conclude in the morning as the union needs to have its members vote on any preliminary agreement reached with Samsung. The negotiations on Tuesday were originally scheduled to end at 7 p.m. The commission announced that the negotiations ultimately lasted nearly 15 hours, concluding at 12:30 a.m. on Wednesday. Union leaders have stated that they plan to stay overnight at the negotiation site in order to participate in Wednesday's negotiations. The union plans to begin an 18-day strike starting from Thursday.
