With the acceleration of global AI data center construction, the market's focus is no longer solely on chips. Fiber optics that support high-speed connections for a large number of servers are becoming a new bottleneck in supply. It has been reported that global fiber optic demand is surging due to the construction of AI data centers. Orders for major fiber optic manufacturers in China are already booked until early 2027. Data shows that in 2024, data centers accounted for less than 5% of global fiber optic demand. But with the increasing demand, this proportion is expected to rise to 30% by 2027. Several US tech giants have already started laying out plans in the fiber optics field this year by locking in production capacity through long-term supply agreements. In January of this year, Meta, the parent company of Facebook, announced a multi-billion dollar, multi-year supply agreement with US company Corning to secure fiber optics, cables, and connecting products for AI data centers. In May, Nvidia also announced a partnership with Corning.
