Consumer sues Amazon: Failed to refund Trump tariff costs.
Amazon was sued by consumers last Friday, demanding refunds for costs passed on to them because of tariffs - the US Supreme Court subsequently ruled that these tariffs were illegally imposed by President Donald Trump. In a proposed class-action lawsuit filed in Seattle federal court, consumers accused the e-commerce giant of illegally collecting hundreds of millions of dollars in tariff costs by raising prices on imported goods before the Supreme Court ruling. The US Supreme Court ruled in February this year by a vote of 6-3, that Trump's use of the International Emergency Economic Powers Act to implement comprehensive tariffs exceeded his authority. Following this ruling, thousands of businesses have begun applying for refunds totaling billions of dollars from the government. However, Amazon has not taken action, with the lawsuit claiming that this is "not due to a lack of legal basis, but to please Trump by allowing the federal government to retain these funds." Amazon did not respond to requests for comment.
