State Administration of Taxation: In the first quarter, the basic medical insurance premium income of China's employees increased by 5.3% year-on-year.

Recently, it was learned from the State Administration of Taxation that in the first quarter of this year, the revenue from the basic medical insurance premiums paid by employees in our country reached 598.1 billion yuan, an increase of 5.3% year-on-year. Currently, the centralized enrollment and payment of basic medical insurance for urban and rural residents for the year 2026 has basically ended, with a revenue of 350.4 billion yuan. According to tax data, in the first quarter of this year, the number of employees paying basic medical insurance premiums was 260 million, an increase of 1.8% year-on-year; including insured urban and rural residents, retirees, etc., the number of people covered by basic medical insurance in our country remains stable at over 1.3 billion, with the Chinese characteristic medical insurance system covering the entire population, unified urban and rural planning, clear rights and responsibilities, moderate protection, and sustainable development becoming more mature and standardized, and the achievements of universal participation in insurance are further consolidated and expanded.
