Overnight news highlights on May 5th.

2. International oil prices rose significantly on the 4th. Light crude oil futures for delivery in June on the New York Mercantile Exchange closed at $106.42 per barrel, up 4.39%; Brent crude oil futures for delivery in July closed at $114.44 per barrel, up 5.8%.
3. U.S. President Trump refused to clearly state whether the ceasefire agreement between the U.S. and Iran is still valid in an interview.
4. U.S. President Trump stated at a small business summit at the White House that the current conflict between the U.S. and Iran has become a "war", which he referred to as a "mini war."
5. On the 4th, a senior Iranian security official stated that Iran fully controls the Strait of Hormuz. The Iranian armed forces have sent a very clear message to the United States: any advancement will become a target for strikes.
6. The UAE Ministry of Defense announced on the 4th that their air defense system intercepted 12 ballistic missiles, 3 cruise missiles, and 4 drones launched from Iran that day. The attacks resulted in injuries to 3 people.
7. On May 4th, the Russian Ministry of Defense announced a ceasefire from May 8th to 9th. Ukrainian President Zelensky officially declared that Ukraine will implement a ceasefire starting from midnight on the 6th.
8. An Israeli official stated that Israel is ready to return to combat at any time and is currently awaiting a "green light" from the United States.
9. The U.S. military stated that two commercial ships flying the American flag successfully passed through the Strait of Hormuz, but this was denied by the Iranian Islamic Revolutionary Guards. The U.S. military also claimed to have sunk 6 Iranian small boats, a claim that was also denied by the Iranian side.
