On May 4, local time, Singapore and New Zealand officially signed a Basic Goods Trade Agreement, committing that in the event of a crisis in the future, exports of essential items such as food, energy, medication, chemicals, and construction products between the two countries will not be unnecessarily restricted and can sustainably flow between each other. According to Singapore, this is the world's first legally binding bilateral supply chain resilience agreement. Singapore's Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong stated at a joint press conference after the signing ceremony that this agreement is a breakthrough, demonstrating that even under pressure, trusted partners will still uphold their commitments to each other, ensuring market openness and the flow of essential goods. New Zealand's Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern began her visit to Singapore on May 3 and witnessed the signing of the agreement with Lee Hsien Loong.
