Cuba thanks the Colombian president for his support.
Cuban President Diaz-Canel posted on social media on the 3rd, thanking Colombian President Petro for his support against the US military threat to Cuba. Diaz-Canel stated that he fully agrees with Petro's comments that Latin America and the Caribbean have the right to maintain a peaceful zone, and also firmly believes that an attack on Cuba is an attack on the entire Latin America. On the same day, Cuban Foreign Minister Rodriguez also posted on social media, thanking Petro for his "strong and united" condemnation of the US. The White House announced on May 1st that President Trump had signed an executive order that day, increasing sanctions on Cuba on the grounds of "threatening US national security and foreign policy." Trump also threatened that the US military would "take over Cuba" upon returning from the war with Iran. In response, Colombian President Petro stated firmly on social media on the 2nd that he strongly opposes any form of military intervention in Cuba, viewing it as "aggression against the entire Latin America." He said, "The Caribbean is a zone of peace, and this must be respected. Cuban sovereignty belongs solely to the Cuban citizens. As long as no one tries to impose their will on others, peace can be achieved in the American continent."
