Today, at a depth of 75 meters below the water surface at the mouth of the Yangtze River, with the "Jianghai" shield machine successfully completing a 5,316-meter excavation task, the currently longest underwater shield tunnel for public highways in the world, known as the "first tunnel of the new Ten Thousand Miles Yangtze River", the Haitai Yangtze Tunnel project has reached the deepest point at the bottom of the river. This sets a new record for domestic 16.6-meter super-large diameter shield machines in underwater tunneling, marking a key breakthrough in China's underwater shield construction technology under conditions of super-large diameter, super high water pressure, and super large burial depth. The Haitai Yangtze Tunnel project has a total length of 39.07 kilometers, with the North connecting Nantong Haimen and the South connecting Suzhou Taicang, designed with dual six-lane highway standards and a design speed of 100 kilometers per hour, with an underwater tunnel length of 11.185 kilometers.
