Bank of France: The impact of the Middle East situation on Japanese consumer goods is limited.
Economists at the French bank in Paris said that the impact of the Middle East conflict on consumer prices in Japan is still limited. They stated that while petrochemical costs for businesses are rising, there has not been a significant impact on CPI data, including items such as detergents and plastic wrap. They added, "Although some panic buying of oil-based household products has been observed in supermarkets and pharmacies, these consumer goods have not seen a widespread price increase." Government data showed that in April, consumer prices in Tokyo, excluding fresh food, rose by 1.5% year-on-year, compared to a 1.7% increase in March.
