The Ministry of Foreign Affairs criticized some Japanese politicians for remaining silent on historical unresolved issues, while making unwarranted comments on China and Taiwan.
Regarding some Japanese politicians planning to submit proposals related to Taiwan to the Japanese government, Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lin Jian stated on the 30th that many knowledgeable people in Japan are reflecting on Japan's domestic and foreign policies, discussing historical legacy issues such as "comfort women" and forced labor, as well as the rights of indigenous peoples and ethnic minorities in Japan. Some Japanese politicians either remain silent on these issues or feign ignorance, but are vocal about China and Taiwan. Their true intentions are perhaps only clear to themselves.
Lin Jian stated during a regular press conference that there is only one China in the world, and Taiwan is an inseparable part of Chinese territory. The One-China principle is a universal consensus in the international community. Countries that take practical actions to uphold the One-China principle and oppose "Taiwan independence" activities fully comply with international law and basic norms of international relations, for which China highly appreciates.
Lin Jian emphasized that it must be reminded to Japan that the 1972 Sino-Japanese Joint Statement clearly states that "the Japanese government recognizes that the government of the People's Republic of China is the sole legal government of China" and "the government of the People's Republic of China reiterates that Taiwan is an indivisible part of Chinese territory". Since the normalization of Sino-Japanese relations, the Japanese government has repeatedly stated that the Taiwan issue is an internal affair of China, which are legal obligations and political commitments that Japan must fulfill.
"In terms of diplomatic independence, democracy, and human rights issues, I have noticed that many knowledgeable people in Japan are reflecting on Japan's internal and foreign policies, discussing historical legacy issues such as 'comfort women' and forced labor, as well as the rights of indigenous peoples and ethnic minorities in Japan. Some Japanese politicians either remain silent on these issues or feign ignorance, but are vocal about China and Taiwan. Their true intentions are perhaps only clear to themselves," he said.
