On April 30, 2026, Wang Yi, member of the Political Bureau of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China and Minister of Foreign Affairs, held talks with Belgian Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Prevo in Beijing. Wang Yi said that this year marks the 55th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Belgium. With the concern and support of leaders of both countries, bilateral relations have made stable and substantial progress, and both sides have established a comprehensive friendly partnership of cooperation. In the current complex international situation, both China and Belgium are defenders and practitioners of multilateralism, supporters and beneficiaries of an open world economy, advocates for resolving disputes through dialogue, and advocates for upholding international law. Both sides have extensive common interests. China is willing to take the 55th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations as an opportunity, to work with Belgium to adhere to mutual respect, seek common ground while reserving differences, enhance dialogue and communication, increase mutual understanding and trust, strengthen people-to-people exchanges, tap into the potential for practical cooperation, and take China-Belgium relations to a new level. Wang Yi stated that Belgium is the host of the headquarters of the European Union and an important gateway for China-Europe cooperation.
