Institution: If it breaks 162 yen, the dollar may move towards 165 yen.
Economist Tsuyoshi Ueno of the Nomura Research Institute said that if the USD/JPY exchange rate breaks through the level of 162 yen, it may move towards the next key level of 165 yen. He stated that Japan may have limited options left to prevent a significant depreciation of the yen. Ueno mentioned that the possibility of joint interest rate checks with the United States is lower than before, as the recent rise in long-term U.S. Treasury yields is not driven by the Japanese bond market. This means that the motivation of U.S. government departments to help the Japanese government contain yen pressure has weakened.
