Trump says he was hesitant to leave the White House Correspondents' Association dinner at one point.
In an interview on the CBS program "60 Minutes" aired on April 26th local time, US President Trump detailed the events during the shooting incident at the White House Correspondents' Association dinner the day before. Trump stated that when the gunshots first rang out, he did not immediately realize the seriousness of the threat and was "not concerned," but intended to first observe the situation. He admitted that at one point he did not cooperate with the Secret Service in evacuating quickly, wanting to see what was happening, and acknowledged that this behavior may have slowed down the response of the Secret Service personnel to some extent. As the situation became clearer, the Secret Service instructed him to take protective measures immediately. Trump said that following the instructions of the Secret Service personnel, he and the First Lady Melania ducked down for cover, then were escorted out of the banquet area and moved to a safe location.
