As the investigation by the Department of Justice into Jerome Powell nears its conclusion, Kevin Wash is likely to smoothly succeed Powell as the chairman of the Federal Reserve. His nomination was previously blocked in the Senate due to opposition from Republican Tom Tillis against investigating Powell. Once confirmed, Wash will take over the board seat currently held by Stephen Milan, ending Milan's brief seven-month tenure at the Federal Reserve. Powell could choose to stay on as a board member at the Federal Reserve, but most past Federal Reserve chairs have left the institution after their leadership terms ended.
