Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs: The supply and demand of live pigs are gradually improving, and prices are stabilizing.
The State Council Information Office held a press conference on the operation of the agricultural and rural economy in the first quarter of 2026. Mardan Mugaiti, Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Rural Affairs, introduced the operation of the agricultural and rural economy in the first quarter, stating that the supply of "basket of vegetables" products is sufficient. According to data from the National Bureau of Statistics, the output of pork, beef, mutton, and poultry in the first quarter was 26.62 million tons, an increase of 4.8% year-on-year; milk production was 9.22 million tons, an increase of 3.4%. In response to the decline in pig prices, comprehensive regulation of production capacity has been strengthened, with the national inventory of sow breeding pigs decreasing for 9 consecutive months. In March of this year, the number of newborn piglets decreased year-on-year for the first time in 17 months, and the supply and demand of pigs gradually improved, stabilizing prices. The domestic output of aquatic products was 15.47 million tons, an increase of 4.3% year-on-year. The overall supply of vegetables and fruits is stable, and prices show seasonal fluctuations.
