Apple CEO Tim Cook, who will step down in a few months, admitted that the Apple Maps service launched with the iPhone in 2012 was the first major mistake he made while leading Apple. At that time, the map app had frequent failures in operation in most regions worldwide, providing users with incorrect routes and mislabeling landmarks, with a user experience far inferior to the Google Maps loaded on the iPhone at the same time. Cook said, "The product itself was not polished enough, but we rushed to launch it, and the previous localization testing was far from sufficient." This product incident ultimately led to the first major management reshuffle in Cook's tenure, as he fired Scott Forstall, head of Apple's software department. Forstall was a key ally of Apple co-founder and Cook's predecessor, Steve Jobs. Cook also stated that he has had many proud achievements in his career, but the Apple Watch and its health features are the pinnacle of his work. When the Apple Watch was first released in 2014, it only had basic health features like heart rate monitoring; Apple has since added a series of health monitoring functions such as high blood pressure detection.
