The US dollar is rising as ships in the Strait of Hormuz are being attacked.
After three ships were attacked in the Strait of Hormuz in Iran, the US dollar rose. Earlier, President Trump had announced that the US would extend the ceasefire agreement with Iran, but maintain the blockade of Iranian ports. Iranian senior advisor Mahdi Mohammadi stated on X that Trump's ceasefire extension was "meaningless". Analysts at Monex Europe said in a report that the dollar may experience further volatility. They said that any continued easing of tension could encourage more selling of the dollar, while any resumption of hostile actions could trigger a new wave of safe-haven demand. The DXY dollar index rose 0.1% to 98.472, after earlier dropping.
