Just 15 minutes before President Trump announced that he would extend the ceasefire agreement with Iran, traders placed a $430 million bet on oil prices falling. This is the third time this month, and the fourth time since the conflict began, that traders have made large and precise bets on oil price predictions shortly before major announcements regarding the Iran war. In March, a $500 million bet was placed, while the total amount of bets placed in April reached about $2.1 billion. On March 23, just 15 minutes before Trump announced a postponement of a strike on Iranian power facilities, traders placed a $500 million bet that oil prices would fall. Just hours before Trump announced a two-week ceasefire agreement on April 7, a $950 million bet was placed. On April 17, just 20 minutes before the Iranian Foreign Minister announced the opening of the Hormuz Strait for commercial vessels, traders placed a $760 million bet on oil prices falling.
