The National Institute for Communicable Diseases in South Africa released a report on the 20th stating that the recent measles epidemic in South Africa continues to spread, with over a thousand confirmed cases reported nationwide in the past 15 weeks. The report shows that a total of 1076 measles cases were reported in all 9 provinces of South Africa from December 29, 2025 to April 12, 2026. The province with the highest number of confirmed cases reported was the Western Cape with 554 cases. The report also shows that the majority of confirmed cases are children aged 1 to 14, with 731 cases, accounting for 67.9% of the total number of confirmed cases.
