In the third quarter, BHP's attributable iron ore production reached 62.8 million tons, a 2% increase compared to the same period last year. The overall iron ore production in Western Australia in the third quarter was 69.75 million tons, with shipments of 67 million tons. Copper production in the third quarter was 476,800 tons. Due to a decrease in production at the world's largest copper mine, the Escondida mine in Chile, copper production decreased by 7% compared to the same period last year, with declining ore grades at the mine. The company maintains its full-year attributable iron ore production forecast at 258-269 million tons and expects copper production to remain between 1.9-2 million tons. The mining giant is actively pursuing growth plans for other commodities. The company is betting on copper growth, predicting that demand for copper, as a key metal for electrification, will soar in the coming decades. Additionally, with the upcoming production at its Jansen Mine in Canada next year, the company is also preparing to enter the potassium fertilizer market.
