Republican Senator Tillis: If Congress were to investigate the Federal Reserve, I may support advancing the nomination process for Powell.
Republican Senator Thom Tillis of the United States has stated that if the Department of Justice withdraws its criminal investigation into the Federal Reserve and Congress itself initiates an investigation, he would be open to advancing Kevin Warsh's nomination for Fed Chair confirmation. Tillis expressed this stance during Warsh's confirmation hearing, where he criticized Trump's efforts to pursue what he called a "ridiculous" investigation into the Federal Reserve's renovation project and Chairman Powell's testimony before Congress regarding it. Tillis had previously indicated he would block Warsh's nomination, but now he has told reporters that he would consider changing his position if Trump compromises and Congress initiates an investigation or other oversight mechanism. Tillis stated, "I not only think this is a good path to resolution, but also a good way of governance." When asked if he would be willing to advance Warsh's nomination if Congress conducts an inquiry and the Justice Department terminates its investigation, he responded, "Yes. That is the right sequence."
