The White House announced that President Trump on Monday invoked the Defense Production Act and signed a series of presidential memoranda related to energy to address the rise in fuel prices caused by the war between the United States and Israel against Iran. The memoranda signed by Trump involve the coal supply chain, domestic oil production, natural gas transmission, and liquefied natural gas production capacity. In addition, he also signed memoranda regarding electric grid infrastructure and other energy-related infrastructure. White House spokesperson Rogers stated: "Today's decision allows the Department of Energy to utilize funds already available in the 'Build Back Better Act' to strengthen our electric grid infrastructure and unleash reliable, affordable, and secure energy." The Defense Production Act is a law enacted during the Cold War era aimed at promoting the production of critical materials for national security purposes.
