A survey by the Tokyo Chamber of Commerce and Industry shows that high inflation has put pressure on Japanese households and food companies. The survey found that the year-on-year growth rate of income for Japanese food manufacturers slowed from 7.6% in 2023 to 3.4% in 2025. The research firm stated in a report, "As the cycle of cost-push inflation reaches its peak, consumers may increasingly avoid higher-priced goods." At the same time, the Tokyo Chamber of Commerce and Industry survey indicated that nearly half of the surveyed food companies reported a decrease in profits, suggesting that price increases have not kept pace with rising costs.
