On April 14th, South Africa officially returned several important cultural relics, including the "Zimbabwe Bird" stone carving, to Zimbabwe in the legislative capital of Cape Town, just in time for the arrival of Zimbabwe's Independence Day on April 18th. The handover ceremony took place in the Iziko South African Museum in Cape Town on the afternoon of the 14th, attended by senior officials from both South Africa and Zimbabwe. South African Minister of Sports, Arts and Culture Nathi Mthethwa presided over the ceremony and handed over the "Zimbabwe Bird" stone carving and 8 sets of Zimbabwean ancestral remains to the Zimbabwean President's Office and Deputy Chief Secretary Paul Bayete Ndamasa.
