On the 15th, the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Azerbaijan Ministry of Foreign Affairs jointly issued a statement, agreeing to properly handle the crash of an Azerbaijan Airlines plane. The statement confirmed that the crash of the Azerbaijan Airlines plane was caused by a mistake in the Russian Federation's airspace defense system. According to an agreement reached by the presidents of Russia and Azerbaijan during a meeting in Dushanbe, the capitals of Tajikistan on October 9, 2025, both sides agreed to properly handle the consequences of the plane crash, including the issue of Russian compensation. The statement also expressed condolences to the families and friends of the victims of the crash. The statement emphasized that the above decisions reflect the common desire of both sides to continue to advance cooperation between the two countries on the basis of ally relationships. Cooperation based on the principles of mutual respect and trust will help develop friendly neighboring relations between the two countries. On December 25, 2024, an Azerbaijan Airlines plane flying from the capital Baku to the Russian city of Grozny crashed on the outskirts of the western Kazakh city of Aktau. There were a total of 67 people on board, with 38 fatalities.
