China Mobile leads the release of the single-channel 400G Ethernet physical layer technology framework.
On April 15, China Mobile took the lead in releasing the Single Channel 400G Ethernet Physical Layer Report at the 2026 Cloud Network Intelligence Conference, proposing a systematic framework for Single Channel 400G Ethernet Physical Layer technology. With the continuous increase in the scale of AI large model parameters, the demand for high-speed interconnection between GPUs in intelligent computing centers is rapidly growing, urgently requiring larger interconnection bandwidth. The GPU interconnection bandwidth has reached 1.6Tbps, achieving 3.2Tbps interconnection bandwidth in intelligent computing centers requires two pathways: "increasing single channel speed" and "increasing the number of channels". The existing 200Gbps single channel requires 16 aggregations, putting pressure on ports, heat dissipation, and wiring, making it difficult to implement; while the single channel 400Gbps only requires 8 aggregations, making it a more optimal solution. Single Channel 400Gbps is not simply doubling the speed, but a systematic innovation breaking the physical transmission limit, facing multiple challenges in theory, materials, integration, industrial collaboration, etc. It is understood that the report was completed by the Single Channel 400G Multi-Source Protocol Group under the Global Fixed Network Innovation Alliance, and gathered technical contributions from more than 20 companies and institutions such as China Mobile, covering key technologies such as single channel 400G optical interconnection, electrical channels, modulation formats, etc., filling the gap in the global single channel 400G Ethernet underlying technology system.
