The relocation of the ancient city stone flagpole in Huyuan has sparked controversy, and the local cultural and tourism bureau has responded.

On April 15th, the Cultural and Tourism Bureau of Huyuan County in Datong City, Shanxi Province, issued a statement regarding the protection and relocation of the stone flagpole in Huyuan Ancient City. After verification by a professional team and evaluation by cultural relics experts, it was determined that the original site of the stone flagpole lacked necessary protection conditions and did not blend well with the surrounding historical environment. Leaving it in its original location would not guarantee the safety of the cultural relics or showcase its historical and cultural value. In accordance with cultural relics protection laws and regulations, expert recommendations, and the overall protection plan for the ancient city, the county has legally classified it as a movable cultural relic and will relocate it to ensure long-term protection and minimize the risk of damage. The stone flagpole will be placed in the Huyuan Historical and Cultural Exhibition Hall, which is equipped with professional conditions for cultural relic protection and a complete exhibition system, allowing for meticulous care and management.
