The National Association for the Advancement of Colored People in the United States filed a lawsuit on Tuesday against Elon Musk's xAI, accusing the company of providing power to data centers in Tennessee and Mississippi, posing health risks to local residents. The lawsuit claims that Musk's artificial intelligence company and its subsidiary, MZX Tech, operated gas turbines without permission at a data center in Shosheven, Mississippi, which violates the Clean Air Act. The lawsuit alleges that the pollutants and harmful chemicals emitted by these gas turbines are associated with an increase in the rates of asthma, respiratory diseases, heart diseases, and certain cancers. Abre' Conner, Director of the NAACP Environmental and Climate Justice program, said in a statement, "A data center should not be a potential death sentence for community health." xAI did not respond to requests for comment.
