Against the backdrop of a global memory shortage, Microsoft has just raised the prices of all Surface devices. According to Windows Central, the starting price of the 13-inch Surface Pro 11 and the 13.8-inch Surface Laptop 7 has increased from $999 to $1499, a $500 increase from the original price. Last year, Microsoft discontinued the $999 versions of the Surface Pro 11 and the 13.8-inch Surface Laptop 7 and instead focused on promoting versions with larger storage space at a price of $1199. At that time, it was believed that Microsoft's move was to make room in the market for the lower-priced 12-inch Surface Pro and 13-inch Surface Laptop launched in May of last year. However, these new devices also saw price increases: the starting price of the 12-inch Surface Pro rose from $799 to $1049, while the 13-inch Surface Laptop rose from $899 to $1199. The starting price of the 15-inch Surface Laptop also increased from $1299 in 2024 to $1599. The top-of-the-line 15-inch Surface Laptop, equipped with a Snapdragon X Elite processor, 64GB of memory, and 1TB of storage space, now has a price of $3649, which is more expensive than a similarly configured 16-inch MacBook Pro by several hundred dollars. This price increase has also made Microsoft's Surface series more challenging in competition with the $599 MacBook Neo, whose performance has surpassed that of Windows laptops in the same price range. According to reports from Windows Central, Microsoft may release new Surface products in the spring or summer of this year. This means that the prices of the upcoming new models may be the same as or even higher than the current models.
