Japanese Self-Defense Forces member dismissed for possessing drugs

According to a report from Japan's Kyodo News, the Ground Self-Defense Force's Togawa Garrison in Togawa City, Hokkaido, dismissed member Fumio Hidetoshi on the 13th for possessing dried plant fragments containing drugs. According to Hokkaido Broadcasting Company, the member tested positive for marijuana components during a random drug test conducted by the Self-Defense Force in September 2025, and the positive result was confirmed in a retest in October. In February of this year, the Ground Self-Defense Force handed over the case to the prosecutor's office on suspicion of violating the drug control law.
