OpenAI executive says partnership with Microsoft limits capabilities.
OpenAI's new revenue chief, Dennis Dreiser, sent a memo to employees on Sunday, stating that the company's alliance with Amazon is a key driver of its business growth, while also pointing out the limitations brought by its long-term partnership with Microsoft. Less than two months before Dreiser released this memo, Amazon announced plans to invest up to $500 million in OpenAI as part of their strategic collaboration. Microsoft, as Amazon's top competitor in the cloud computing field, has invested over $13 billion in OpenAI since 2019, long before the company launched ChatGPT and sparked the wave of generative artificial intelligence. Amazon Web Services, the global leader in cloud infrastructure, provides services for enterprises to access all mainstream AI models through its platform called Bedrock, which also includes OpenAI's models. "Our collaboration with Microsoft is the cornerstone of our success. However, this partnership also limits our ability to meet the actual needs of enterprise customers - for many customers, this channel is Bedrock," Dreiser wrote in the memo. "Since the announcement of the collaboration at the end of February, the proactive demand for this service from customers has been frankly amazing."
