After US President Trump announced a ceasefire agreement with Iran, oil prices fell, risk appetite increased, and the British pound rose to a two-week high against the US dollar, and to a one-week high against the euro. Trump stated that he agreed to suspend attacks on Iran for two weeks, on the condition that the Strait of Hormuz be reopened. Iran agreed to allow ships to safely pass through the strait and stated that negotiations with the US will begin on Friday. The pound benefited from this news, as the pound is a currency sensitive to risk and UK heavily relies on energy imports. The pound rose by 1%, reaching a high of $1.3445; the euro fell by 0.1% against the pound, dropping to a low of 0.8699.
