The WeChat official account of the Guangdong Province Second Sha Sports Training Center issued a statement on April 8th: Recently, our center's diver Quan Hongchan was suspected of being subjected to online violence, attracting high attention from society. Our center has reported this to the police. Quan Hongchan, as a young athlete who has brought honor to the country, has been subjected to undue public pressure and mental harm during her growth process. Our center expresses serious concern and firmly opposes this. Athletes are precious national assets, practitioners and promoters of sportsmanship. Any malicious slander, insults, spread of false information against athletes and their families in any form has exceeded the legal and moral bottom line. This behavior not only seriously disrupts the normal training and life of athletes, but also destroys a fair, healthy, and positive sports ecology. Our center firmly opposes all forms of online violence and personal infringement, firmly opposes perverse fan culture, and firmly supports Quan Hongchan in using legal means to protect her own rights. Our center will work with relevant departments to firmly hold online bullies accountable through legal means. We call on all sports enthusiasts not to participate in the spreading of false information, not to make malicious comments on athletes' bodies, families, and personal lives, and not to engage in verbal attacks. Respect and understanding are like cheering on the field, and providing understanding in times of difficulty. Please focus on the essence of sports, and return to the spirit of sportsmanship.
