The cooling system of Japan's No. 1 nuclear power plant's fuel pool has been shut down.

According to Tokyo Electric Power Company on the evening of April 5, in the afternoon of that day, the fuel pool of Unit 1 at the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Plant stopped operating due to a water pump failure, causing the cooling system to stop running. Smoke was observed at the scene during inspections. It is reported that there have been no radiation leaks or casualties so far. According to the Japan Broadcasting Corporation, when the cooling system stopped, the water temperature was 26.5 degrees Celsius, and there is approximately 8 days of buffer time before reaching the upper limit of 65 degrees Celsius. Tokyo Electric Power Company is currently investigating the cause of the malfunction, and is working to repair the water pump quickly to restore operation of the cooling system.
