Hainan has built a total of 865 "zero-waste" cells.

According to Hainan Daily, Hainan Province continues to promote the construction of "zero waste islands". As of now, a total of 865 "zero waste cells" have been built across the province, covering key scenes in the tourism industry such as hotels and scenic spots. The construction of "zero waste islands" is one of the "2+N" flagship projects in building Hainan into a national ecological civilization pilot zone. "Zero waste cells" are the smallest basic units of "zero waste cities", likening a city to a living organism, with communities, schools, factories, government offices, shopping malls, hospitals, and scenic spots being like individual "cells".
