Wang Yi spoke on the phone with Russian Foreign Minister Lavrov.
On the 5th, Wang Yi, member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and Minister of Foreign Affairs, had a phone call with Russian Foreign Minister Lavrov to exchange views on the current situation in the Middle East. Lavrov expressed Russia's deep concern about the escalating situation in the Middle East. Regarding the current hostilities and the issue of the Strait of Hormuz, Russia believes that military actions must be immediately stopped, and efforts should be made to return to the political and diplomatic track to address the root causes of the conflict. The United Nations Security Council should play a constructive role in this regard. Russia is willing to closely communicate and coordinate with China to continue to push for a ceasefire. Wang Yi stated that as permanent members of the UN Security Council, China and Russia should uphold justice on major international issues, adopt an objective and balanced approach, and strive for greater understanding and support from the international community. China has always advocated for political solutions to international and regional hot-spot issues through dialogue and negotiations. Currently, the situation in the Middle East is deteriorating and hostilities are escalating. The fundamental solution to the issue of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz is to cease hostilities as soon as possible. China is willing to continue cooperation with Russia in the UN Security Council, timely communicate on major issues, and make efforts to ease tensions and maintain regional peace, stability, and global security.
