On the first day of the Qingming holiday, it is expected that there will be around 80,000 passengers crossing the Qiongzhou Strait, an increase of approximately 14% compared to last year.
On the morning of April 4th, the ports and docks of the Qiongzhou Strait were crowded with people and filled with traffic. The masses returning home for tomb-sweeping and short-distance travelers lined up orderly to check tickets and board the ships. The passenger ferry schedules were increased, and the ferry transport scene was busy yet orderly. According to the maritime department in Zhanjiang, on the first day of the Qingming Festival holiday, the Qiongzhou Strait saw a small peak in water transport, with an estimated 80,000 passengers expected to be sent that day, an increase of about 14% compared to the previous year. Over the three-day holiday, approximately 240,000 passengers and 67,000 vehicles are expected to be sent, with increases of 7% and 4.5% respectively compared to the previous year. The demand for tomb-sweeping and short-distance travel is concentrated and released, leading to a noticeable increase in the popularity of water transport.
