After US President Trump delivered a speech on Wednesday evening, leaving investors hoping for a quicker end to the war with Iran disappointed, US Treasury bond yields rose in early trading, with the short end of the yield curve seeing a bigger increase. Ian Lyngen of BMO Capital Markets wrote: "Trump vowed to 'severely' strike Iran and 'send the country back to the stone age,' setting the tone for the current market assessment of the events in the Middle East." He pointed out that the selling in early trading disrupted the bullish sentiment in the US Treasury bond market earlier this week. In the latest trading, the yield on the benchmark 10-year US Treasury bond is around 4.339%, compared to 4.319% at Wednesday's close. The two-year US Treasury bond yield has risen to 3.817%, compared to 3.802% at Wednesday's close.
